OBITUARY

CHARLES H. STANFIELD

Charles H. Stanfield was born on August 15, 1874, at LaFayette, lnd., 'and departed this life at his home in Sanborn on February 2, 1932, at the age of 57 years 5 months and 15 days.

The early years of his youth and manhood were spent at LaFayette, where he received his education in the public schools and later entered business college.

For his life's occupation, he chose railroading and entered the railroad service in the pump repair and water service department. For the past thirty years he had been in the employ of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul and the Pacific Railroad Company. In 1912 he was transferred here from Jefferson, Iowa, and he maintained a family home here for the past twenty years. Eighteen of these had been spent in the house he resided in.

For the past two years, Mr. Stanfield had been in failing health and was obliged to discontinue work after suffering a light stroke, from which he never fully recovered. His demise was caused by another stroke, which came upon him while at his home Saturday evening, a week ago.

In 1898 he enlisted for service in the Spanish-American War and he served during the entire war with Co. F, 4th Illinois Vol. Inf. He entered this company at Springfield, Illinois ,and was stationed for duty at Havana, Cuba. While in action, he received a bad gunshot wound in his left leg, which confined him to the hospital for a number of weeks. He received an honorable discrage at Atlanta. Geoigia, in June, 1899.

He was a member of Major Wm. A. Kirk Camp of United Spanish War Veterans, at Sioux City, Iowa, and was also identified with the Imperial Muscovites and the I. O. O. F.

In 1892, previous to the war, he was united in marriage to Miss Serilda A. Lancaster, at Bloomington, Ill. His wife and two daughters, Mrs. Milton Gibbs, Sanborn, and Mrs. Dora Pramer, Albert Lea, Minn., survive him. Others left to mourn his passing are seven grand children, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Keen, South Bend, Ind., and one brother, S. D. Stanfield, LaFayette, Ind.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, from the Presbyterian church, Rev. A. C. Grafton officiating. During the service hour, a quartette of mixed voices composed of Mesdames R. H Leonard, Ellis Miller, and Messers E. A. Mayne and Edward Huibregtse rendered a number of selections, and Miss Margaret Pramer, a granddaughter, sang "In the Garden," accompanied by Miss Dorothy Grafton.

The many beautiful floral tributes spoke silently of the beautiful friendships the deceased had established in the city, and of the large number of people who mourn the passing of this respected citizen. Interment was made in Roseland cemetery, where military honors were paid the deceased by Conway Post American Legion, who served as guard, and read the beautiful military burial service at the grave. Three of his Spanish-American War comrades, J. P. Roder, Mike Sullivan and F. C. Wagner, assisted by three World War veterans, Ralph Colvin, L. A. McDonald and George McGranahan, served as pall bearers. Out of town relatives in attendance at the services were Mrs. Dora Pramer and daughter, Margaret, Albert Lea, Minn.; John Forry and three sons, Harold, Wayne and Wilmont, Laurens, Iowa; Mrs. John Ploof, Lyons, Nebr.; Mrs. Leona Lancaster, Bloomington, Ill. and H. S. Marsh, Albert Lea, Minn.
