JAMES VERBRUGGE 1934 — 1992

James Junior Verbrugge, the son of Nick and Katherine (Zwaggerman) Verbrugge, was born at Matlock, Iowa on May 29, 1934. He lived his youth in the Matlock and Sanborn areas and received his education at the Sanborn Christian School.

On March 17, 1954 he was united in marriage to Velma VanDeBrake at Sheldon, Iowa and to this union five children were born. Jim and Velma's married life has been spent in the Sanborn area where they have been engaged in farming. Jim was also a feed salesman for McNess Feed.

Jim died on November 19, 1992 at Prairie View Home at Sanborn at the age of 68 years, five months and 20 days.

He is survived by .his wife, Velma of Sanborn; his children: Luann and LeRoy Bosma of Holland, Minn., Jeffrey of Sanborn, Jay of Primghar, Lynette and Rick Mengelsen of Sheldon, and Lana of Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren, his father and stepmother: Nick and Stella Verbrugge of Orange City; two brothers: Wallace of Orange City and Harvey of Sanborn; and two sisters: Myrna Koldenhoven of Sanborn and Arlene Haarsma of Hartley.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother.

He was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon and Jim also served on the board of the A.S.C.S. Jim will be remembered by his family and friends for the enjoyment he received from his hobbies of bowling and pitching horseshoes. Funeral services were held November 23 at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church with Seminarian Harry Zekveld officiating.

Casket bearers were Bruce Van Engen, Corwin (Cork) Bootsma, Philip Bootsma, Pete Bootsma, Gary Muilen-burg, Henry Hofland. Honorary bearers were Raymond Schmidt, Michael Swets, Francis Moore, Garrold Bootsma, Elmer Klaver, Bernie Van Drie, John Raness and Bill Roelfs. The Men's Quartet: Don DeBoer, Gerald Alons, Dave Hofland and Bob Oldenkamp sang, "Precious Lord Take My Hand." Julie Hofland was pianist. Congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "It Is Well With My Soul," and "By the Sea of Crystal." Organist was Carla Elgersma. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
