Services in memory of Pearl Clayton Pauli were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 12. 2001, at the Warner Funeral Home in Hartley, Iowa. Pastor Tim Nappe officiated. Casket bearers were Brian Hirt, Brady Hirt, Jim Norton, Jerry Scharn-berg, Allan Tamasky and Ed Harders. Pearl's great-grandchildren — Jordan, Dylan, Ashly, Jessica, Krista — served as honorary casket bearers. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Hartley was in charge of the arrangements.

Pearl Clayton Pauli, the daughter of Henry G. and Lucy Thomas Fahrner, was bom July 25, 1909 in Guinea Mills, Virginia. Pearl was raised in Virginia where she attended school in Cumberland County, Virginia.

Pearl married A.B. Fender in 1929 and to this union one daughter was born.

In September of 1940, Pearl married Baxter Clayton in Hartley, Iowa. Pearl and Baxter owned and operated Clayton's Variety Store in Hartley together until they sold it in 1953. They continued to make their home in Hartley until 1967, when they moved to Florida. Baxter passed away in 1969. While living in Hartley she enjoyed volunteer work with her church.

In 1975, Pearl married Art Pauli, and they made their home in California. She received awards and recognition for her volunteer work in California. Pearl moved to Arnolds Park four years ago where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

Pearl passed away at the Ruthven Care Center on January 9, 2001, at the age of 91.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; one grandson, Bradley Hirt; and one brother, Bennie.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Blaine Hirt of Arnolds Park, Iowa; one stepson, Greg Pauli and his wife Molly of California; two grandchildren and their wives: Brian and Teresa, and Brady and Di Hirt; five great-grandchildren: Jordan, Dylan, Ashly, Jessica and Krista; other relatives and friends.
