Funeral services Wednesday for Gary Paulson

Funeral services for Gary Paulson, 23, a graduate of the Hartley Community High School, were held Wednesday from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley with Pastor Klinkenberg officiating. Military rites were conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Paulson, Primghar, and two sisters.

Gary and four companions apparently drowned when the car they were riding in broke through a guard rail on a Mississippi River bridge and tumbled into the water about 18 miles southwest of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He had been on a fishing trip with friends when the accident occurred.

Following his discharge from the armed forces in December, Gary had been employed in construction work near Moneta.

The sheriff's office identified the other drowning victims as Kathleen Fox, 22, her brother, Dennis, 16, both of Grand Rapids; James Betz, 17, Grand Rapids, and Michael Bowman, 15, Cohasset, Minn. According to the report of the coroner the five were unable to escape from the vehicle which landed in ten feet of water. A complete obituary appears elsewhere in the Sentinel.
