Funeral services held for Loren M. Drefke

Funeral services for Loren M. Drefke
were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday,
March 22, 2002, at the Bethel Lutheran
Church in Sutherland, Iowa, with
Rev. Leroy Riemer officiating.
"What a Friend We Have in Jesus"
"I'm But a Stranger Here" and
"Go My Children With My Blessing"
were sung by the congregation.
The organist was Jan Ebel. The
casket bearers were Marvin Solko,
Frank Fogelman, Gary Kruse, Ron Jalas,
Dennis Grant and Jerry Cooper.

Interment was at Waterman Cemetery
at Sutherland, Iowa, under the direction
of the Gaudian-EIdridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY
Loren Max Drefke, the son of Albert
and Tillie Langkand Drefke, was
born November 2, 1905, in Cedar
Township, Cherokee County, Iowa.
He received his education in country
school and graduated from Meriden
High School.

On July 18, 1935, he
was united in marriage to Helene
Lerch in Lincoln, Nebraska. After
their marriage the couple settled on a
farm southeast of Sutherland. Loren
farmed with his brother, Harvey as
well as raising Angus cattle and selling
Crow Seed Corn.

The couple retired and moved into Sutherland in
November of 1983. His wife preceded
him in death on December 26,
1991.

Loren remained in the family
home until moving to the Sutherland
Care Center in October of 1998. He
passed away at the care center on
Monday, March 18, 2002, reaching
the age of 96 years, 4 months and 16
days.

He was baptized on December 3,
1905, and later confirmed on March
28, 1920, at St. Mark's Lutheran
Church in rural Meriden, Iowa. He
was currently a member of the Bethel
Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
Loren leaves to cherish his memory
one son, Larry Drefke of Sutherland,
five grandchildren: Mark and
his wife, Susan Drefke of Sutherland,
Marilyn and her husband, Mike
Zembsch of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael
and his wife, Sandy Drefke of
Cherokee, Merry and her husband,
Randy Peterson of Larrabee, and
Mitchell Drefke of Cherokee; also
nine great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren; also a host
of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his
wife, parents, and one brother, Harvey.
