Funeral services for William Koester were held on Saturday morning. March 22 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Paullina. Mr. Koester passed away Wednesday. March 19 at his home in Paullina at the age of 83.
Rev. Donald Johnson, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, officiated at the services Pallbearers were John Koester. Gary Koester. Paul Koester. Bob Hibbing. Bill Hibbing and Dick Hibbing. The congregation sang two hymns, accompanied by the organist. Mrs Clarence Hibbing. Buraial was in Prairie View Cemetery with arrangements under the care of the Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home.
William Koester, the son of Herman Koester and Mary Lutger Koester was born on Oct 31, 1896 at Carlinville, Ill. He was baptized at his home in Carlinville, Ill., and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Carlinville, Ill. in 1909. He was educated in rural schools.
On April 13, 1926, he was united in marriage with Alma Miller of Paullina, Iowa. To them four children were born.
Mr. and Mrs. Koester farmed in the Paullina area until moving to Paullina in 1942. His wife Alma passed away in May of 1967. He continued to make his home in Paullina until his sudden passing on March 19 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 19 days.
William was an active and loyal member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He held numerous church offices here at Zion and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League.
Left to cherish his memory are his sones Weber of Paullina; two daughters, Wilma, Mrs. Reinhard Hibbing of Hartley, and Wanabelle of Sioux City; daughters-in-law Mrs. Lucille Sohn of Algona and JoAnne, Mrs. Weber Koester; one son-in-law; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also one sister. Alvena of Carlinville, Ill.; two brothers, Herman of Standard City. Ill., and Henry of Carlinville. Ill. and other relatives. Preceding him in death were his wife, Alma, one son. Walter, in 1956. one brother and one sister in infancy; one brother Fred in 1973; and one sister Emma in 1975.
