Services held for Walter E. Niebuhr

Funeral services for Walter E. Niebuhr were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, 1989, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa. Rev. Stephen Kamprath officiated. The pallbearers were David Niebuhr, Larry Niebuhr, Michael Drake, Paul Drake, Randy Unrau, Dennis Unrau, Robert Ewoldt and Bruce Ewoldt. Mr. and Mrs. Orlynn Koehlmoos and Mr. and Mrs. Weber Koester were in charge of flowers. The final resting place is Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Walter Ernest Niebuhr, the son of George and Augusta Swenson Niebuhr, was born October 15, 1901, in O'Brien County, Iowa. He attended school at St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown. He was baptized on October 15, 1901, and later confirmed on March 28, 1915, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. He was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was also a member of the Paullina Senior Citizens.

On November 2, 1924, he was united in marriage to Irene Fiddelke at her parent's home in rural Paullina. After their marriage, the couple farmed west of Paullina for many years until his retirement in 1964. Irene passed away on November 9, 1984, in Primghar.

Walter continued to make his home on the family farm until entering the Wide View Rest Home on Saturday, March 4, 1989. He passed away at the home on Tuesday, March 7, 1989, reaching the age of 87 years, 4 months and 22 days.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Mrs. Sylvia Unrau of Paullina, Wesley and daughter-in-law LaVerne Niebuhr of Paullina, Marcella and son-in-law Lee Ewoldt of Paullina, and Phyllis and son-in-law Tom Drake of Algona; also 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, son-in-law Theodor Unrau, two grandchildren, parents, and three brothers, Alfred, Ray and Erwin.
