Robert D. Baird, age 81, of Spirit Lake, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

He was born on April 3, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Delva and Clara (Hill) Baird.

Bob lived in the Hornick area until 1943, when the family moved to Hartley, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Eunice Rost on April 3, 1951, in Jackson, Minnesota. Over 60 years of marriage, they lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Hartley, Everly, Spencer, Milford and the Iowa Great Lakes Region. During the years, Bob was employed as a farmer, carpet layer, school custodian, bus driver and owned and operated a feed grinding business. Never one to sit around, Bob continued to work even in retirement as a grounds keeper at Manhattan Beach.

Bob was a beloved husband to Eunice, and his family and extended family were the focus of his life! Bob and Eunice built and remodeled numerous homes over the years. Their current home was built specifically to hold as many of their family as possible, often for weeks at a time. Bob was an avid Hawkeye fan. He also enjoyed civil war books and dancing.

Bob was an avid collector of all things and if you ever needed anything, he had it. The family considered him a saint for vacationing with his wife and two sister-in-laws on numerous occasions.

Bob is survived by his wife, Eunice Baird of Spirit Lake; three daughters, Monica (Doug) Beving of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Cindy (Terry) Jensen of Spirit Lake, and Theresa (Jim) Kuiper of Canton, South Dakota; grandchildren, Chass, Amy, Chris, Josh, Sharee, Jacy, Tim and Tom, and all of their spouses; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Baird; a brother-in-law, Bob Parker; godchildren, Marcia (Digger) Cheevers, Jeri (Jerry) French and Brenda Kronawitter; and many nieces, nephews, friends and his faithful companion, Buffy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marlene; six sisters; and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30A.M. Monday, March 5, 2012, at Union Memorial Church in Milford. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 4:00P.M. until 6:00P.M. at the Schuchert Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery on Monday, at 2:00P.M. in Hartley, Iowa.
