Services Held for Katherine Steffen

Mrs Katherine Steffen, 97, of Paullina passed away on Tuesday. March 23 at Paullina. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon. March 26 at the Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina with Rev Donald Johnson officiating. Pallbearers were Loren Steffen. Delton Steffen. Gary Kruse. Donald Steffen, David Steffen and Bill Kruse. Fred and Betty Schuknecht sang two hymns accompanied by organist Mrs Clarence Hibbing. Burial was in the Prairie View Cemetery near Paullina with arrangements under the care of the Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home. [NOTE: Actually buried at WEST Prairie View.]

Katherine Steffen. daughter of John and Sophia Zoring Dreessen. was born March 6. 1885 in Germany The family moved from Germany when Katherine was six and settled in the Keystone area and a few years later settled in the Granville area. This is where she received her education.

In 1905 she was united in marriage to Albert Steffen in Cherokee County. Ia. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Paullina area for many years before moving into town in I960. Albert died in 1960 and Katherine continued to live in Paullina until passing away on March 23. 1982, reaching the age of 97 years and 17 days

She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in Germany and confirmed on March 26. 1899 at St John Lutheran Church at Germantown Katherine was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Paullina and active in Ladies Aid for many years Katherine leaves to mourn her passing her children: two daughters, Mrs Ray (Mildred) Kruse of Calumet and Mrs Bill (Frances) Hahnel of Dallas. Tex ; two sons. Ray of Paullina and Edmund of Granville; 20 grandchildren. 40 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, two sons, Clarence and Harold, four brothers and two sisters.
