Services Held For Long-Time O'Brien Resident

Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, January 18th, for Mrs. Christania [sic] Steen, 79, a resident of Calumet, who passed away at her home there Monday evening of this week.

Mrs. Steen, a pioneer resident of O'Brien county, had lived in Calumet for the past forty-five years, and prior to that in Paullina. She passed away quietly at her home in Calumet at 7 p.m., Monday evening, after having been in ill health for the past two months.

Funeral services were held at the Seivert Funeral Home here at 1:30 p.m., and at Zion's Evangelical and Reformed church in Calumet at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Dietrich officiated at the services with burial being made in Liberty cemetery.

Surviving are five daughters and three sons: Mrs. Anna Mehrens, of Calumet; Mrs. J. A. Sohm, of Storm Lake; Mrs. P. C. Moran, of North Hollywood, Calif.; Mrs. Bert Marlow, of Omaha; Mrs. E. M. Stoltzfus, of Lake Park; Ralph of McGregor, Minn.; George, of Calumet; and Wilbur, of Garretson, So. Dak. Her husband and two daughters preceded her in death.

Services Held For Mrs. Steen Wed., Jan. 18th

Funeral services for Mrs. Christina Steen were held Wednesday, January 18 at 1 o'clock at Seivert Funeral Home at Primghar, and at 2:30 p.m. at the Evangelical and Reformed church at Calumet. The interment was at the Liberty Cemetery at the side of her husband. Pastor Siegfried Dietrich officiated.

Mrs. Christina Steen

Christina Wolleson Steen, daughter of Fred and Christina Wolleson, was born February 14, 1871, near Gladbrook, Tama County, Iowa, and passed away in her home at Calumet, Iowa January 16, 1950, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 2 days.

At the age of six years, upon the death of her mother, she went to Paullina, Iowa, to make her home with an aunt and uncle. On July 14, 1888, she was united in marriage to Theodore Steen of Paullina and they continued to make Paullina their home until 1905, when they moved to Calumet, Iowa; here she attended the former Methodist church with her family.

To their union were born ten children. Those to mourn her passing are: Mrs. Anna Mehrens, of Calumet, Iowa; Mrs. Mavis Sohm, of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Beulah Moran of North Hollywood, Calif.; Ralph Steen of McGregor, Minn.; Mrs. Ferne Marlow of Omaha, Nebr.; George Steen of Calumet, Iowa; Mrs. Ellen Stoltzfus, of Lake Park, Iowa; Wilbur Steen of Garreston, So. Dak.; besides her children she leaves to mourn 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, also other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband and two daughters; Pearl and Myra. Two months ago her health began to fail and she was tenderly cared for by her loved ones. Through years of joy and grief she was a devoted wife and mother who had at heart the welfare of her family and her home.
