Dr. H. C. West, a pioneer of Primghar and Paullina, and father of Mrs. W. Wollenberg of this place and Mrs. King of Primghar, died at his home in New Virginia, Iowa, May 1, 1899. His death is supposed to have been the result of an attack of grip. The funeral was held at the above place yesterday. Dr. West left Paullina in the 80s after a residence of several years here when the town was young. He held the office of mayor at one time, and took an active part in the county and municipal affairs. He was among the first practicing physicians of the county, having been located at the county seat previous to his residence here. Deceased was quite aged and had been feeble for some years. As a citizen and neighbor his life was quiet and unobtrusive, and he was generally respected and liked by business associates and acquaintances. We believe four children are the near surviving relatives. Capt. Ed West, now in the Klondike country, and Algernon West, editor of the Lee County Republican being the two surviving sons.
