DIED: January 7, 2013

James "Jim" Habben, age 71, of Ashton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be Friday, January 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Luke Wynja officiating. Burial in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

James Kay Habben was born on March 20, 1941 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Louis and Margaret (Kruse) Habben. He lived his youth on a farm near Melvin, Iowa, where he attended a country school and graduated from Melvin High School. He attended one year of trade school for welding, in Waseca, Minnesota.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Wieringa of Sheldon, Iowa on March 6, 1964. They lived on a farm by May City, Iowa until 1966, when they moved to their farm near Ashton, Iowa. Jim liked farming and trucking. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa, where he was a former deacon.

Jim enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing with his family and friends, and especially spending time with his family. When he retired, he enjoyed having coffee at McDonald's in the morning and Hardees in the afternoon to visit with his friends. Jim was a very hard working and determined person in all areas of his life. He instilled that value in his children. He always put the concerns for others before himself. His church, Christian education, and his Christian faith, were very important to him. Jim will be remembered as a caring and loving person with a pleasant disposition who looked on the bright side of life.

He passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 48 years: Sharon Habben of Ashton, IA; his children: Marla and Dave Schrank and their daughter, Morgan of Canton, SD, Steve and Kristi Habben and their children, Jaden, Kaci and Jaya of George, IA, Keith and April Habben and their children, Cole, Shane and Aftyn of Ashton, IA, Kristi Habben of Sibley, IA; two step-sisters: Judy Hinkeldey of Alta, IA and Marcella Varner of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Ernest Schutte.
