PRIMGHAR—Verna Alice Van Beek, 81, Primghar, died Tuesday, April 8, at Primghar Care Center. Services were Friday, April 11, at American Reformed Church in Primghar, with the Rev. Jim Daniels officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Gaudian- Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.
Verna Van Beek, daughter of Dick and Jennie (Mastbergen) Teeselink, was born Jan. 6, 1922, near Sheldon. She attended school in Archer. She married Chris Van Beek on Aug. 15,1941, in Macy, NE. He was in the service and she lived in Sheldon, where she was employed as a bookkeeper. After his return from the service, they farmed in the Sheldon and Struble areas. They built a new home in Primghar in 1957. Their retirement years were spent in Primghar, and she moved to Primghar Care Center in February 2003.
She was a member of American Reformed Church in Primghar, and the Reformed Church Women.She also was a member of the Dale Daisies and Rosedale Club. She started the Buckets of Joy in O'Brien County to help disadvantaged families. She received the Governor's Award for volunteerism. She enjoyed collecting birds and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Chris Van Beek of Primghar, seven children, David and Carol Van Beek of Sheldon, James and Lynn Van Beek of Ashland, MA, Robert and Janet Van Beek of Primghar, Richard and Angie Van Beek of Paullina, Jon and Sharon Van Beek of Primghar, Jane Van Beek of Washta, and Daniel and Janice
Van Beek of Paullina; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred and Leila Teeselink of Tyler, MN; and three sisters, Alice and Joe Vander Berg of Mundelein, IL, Wilma and Gerrit Vander Ziel of Poway, CA, and Beverly and the Rev. Jay Pruim of Kalamazoo, MI.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Mike Van Beek; and a brother, Don Teeselink.
