Edith V. Rozeboom, the daughter of Ed and Hattie (Ruish) Sorgdrager, was born October 10, 1917 near LeMars, Iowa. She received her education in a rural country school in Plymouth County. She was united in marriage to Lammert James (Sonny) Rozeboom on April 27, 1938 on her parent’s farm near Alton and to this union two sons were born, Vernon and Daryl. After their marriage they farmed east of Sheldon for 15 years, before moving to their current home place southeast of Sheldon. Edith was a farm wife helping her husband on their century farm. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Sheldon Hospital for 12 years and was an Avon Lady. Her husband, Lammert preceded her in death on July 29, 2009 in Sheldon. Edith remained on the family farm until moving into Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon in August of 2011. Edith passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 94 years, 4 months and 6 days.
She was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, bead work; she was a gifted perfectionist in all of her handwork. She also enjoyed woodworking, playing the organ, gardening, cooking, trying out new recipes, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, camping with the Good Sams Club, traveling in their motor home; but especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memories are her two sons and their spouses, Vernon and Beverly Rozeboom and Daryl and Barb Rozeboom all of Sheldon, Iowa; nine grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, eleven great-great grand-children, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Rozeboom of Texas; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lammert; her parents, and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Harriet and Ted Feekes and Phyllis and Gerrit Van Wyk.
