Marjorie R. Snyder was born on September 15, 1924, in Laurel, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Dorsey and Eva (Germany) Hill. She lived her youth and attended school in Meridian, Mississippi. She was united in marriage to Windell B. May in Meridian on December 20, 1941. Windell was killed while serving in World War II.
Later, on December 5, 1946, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Marjorie married George L. Snyder of Canton, North Carolina. George’s occupation took them to the north part of Virginia to the small rural community of Calverton, where they lived for 18 years. Marjorie was always active in church and busy being a homemaker, mother, and Sunday school teacher. She instilled Christian values and faithfulness to church into the lives of her young children.
A career change moved George and Marjorie to Richmond, Virginia, where they lived for almost 30 years. They both loved to travel, so many week-ends found them on the road – away from the city. Most trips and vacations involved visiting family members and grandchildren. During their years in Richmond, one of Marjorie’s favorite places to spend time was colonial Williamsburg. They attended West End Assemblies of God Church while in Richmond.
After George’s death, Marjorie moved to Sheldon to be near her son and grandchildren here in Iowa. She has been a resident of Sheldon for 6 years and a member of Parkview Assembly Church.
