Funeral Services Here This Afternoon For Mrs. Everett Van Horne
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon for Mrs. Everett Van Horne who ended her own life here Tuesday forenoon. Rev. L. W. Rowse will conduct the services which will be held at the Methodist Church, beginning at 2 o'clock. Baumgartens are in charge of arrangements and interment is to be at Waterman Cemetery. Obituary and funeral details will be published next week. Mrs. Van Horne, who was 62 years old, hung herself in the family garage Tuesday morning, while her husband slept after his round of duty as town night-watch. Mr. Van Horne discovered the body when he awoke shortly after noon. Dr. J. A. Wagner of Primghar, county coroner said death resulted from strangulation.

Mrs. Van Horne Rites Held on Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. Everett Van Horne, 62, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church with Rev. L. W. Rowse in charge, directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Mrs. Lyle Youde and Mrs. Silas Steele, with accompaniment by Mrs. Otis Hulser, sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Nearer My God to Thee". Pallbearers were James Joines, Frank Joines, Max Joines, Frank Waggoner, Chas. McCormack and Ronald Waggoner. Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Clayton and Mrs. Lelah Cooper had charge of the flowers. Interment was in Waterman cemetery.
Mrs. Everett Van Horne
1886 - 1948Mrs. Everett Van Horne, nee Lura Lavina Joines, the daughter of S. F. and Rachel Joines, was born on March 11, 1886, at Hooker, N. C. She passed away at her home in Sutherland on Dec. 14, 1948, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 3 days.
She grew to a young woman near her birthplace in North Carolina, and it was there she attended public school, and was baptized in the Baptist church. At the age of 17 she moved to Sutherland, Iowa. This was in 1903. Six years later, on August 11,1909, she was united in marriage to Everett J. Van Horne at Hartley, Iowa. To them was born one son, Ralph. They moved to Huron, S. Dak., and lived there for about 24 years, returning to Sutherland in 1934. This has been her home since that time. She was active in church work here.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Glen. Left to mourn her sudden passing are her husband, Everett, and son Ralph of Sutherland, four grandchildren, and two brothers, Earl Joines of Larrabee, and Percy Joines of Meriden, besides other relatives and many friends.

Waggoner, Mrs. Joyce Mays, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Waggoner, Sioux Rapids; Mrs. Ray Mileham, Laurens; Mrs. Barbara Hardin and Evelyn, and Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Hardin, Primghar; Mr. and Mrs. Kimball Joines and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Joines, Hartley.
