Nick Betz Funeral Friday at Primghar
Funeral services for Nick Betz, former Sutherland resident will be held Friday morning at 9:30 at the Catholic church at Primghar, with the Rev. Father J. W. Cullen in charge. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery at Sutherland. Mr. Betz, who has been in failing health for about a year, died early Monday morning at a Sioux City hospital. He farmed near Sutherland for many years, moving to Primghar about 15 years ago. Survivors include his wife, seven children, his brothers Frank and Mike of Gaza, and his sisters, Mrs. C. C. Lohberger of Sutherland, Mrs. Kate Mathern of Gaza, Mrs. Barney Hodapp of Allendorf, Mrs. Henry Hopke of Wisconsin, Mrs. John Kopp of Glendale, Calif.

1886 - Nickolas J. Betz - 1948
Nickolas J. Betz, the son of Micheal [sic?] and Elizabeth Betz, was born on a farm near Schaller, Iowa, on July 2, 1886, and died at St. Joseph's hospital at Sioux City on November 22, 1948, having reached the age of 62 years, 4 months and 20 days. He had been in failing health for the past year. He was taken to Sioux City where he died suddenly following a major operation.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Catholic church in Primghar with the Rev. Father J. W. Cullen officiating at the Low Mass. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery at Sutherland. Pallbearers were Wilbur, Micheal, Carl and Paul Mathern, Joe Lohberger and Lawrence Betz, all nephews of the deceased.
His entire life with the exception of his first eight years, were spent in the vicinity of Sutherland and Primghar. On September 6, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Valetta Wiese of Primghar and to this union seven children were born: Dora (Mrs. Henry Hilbert), Mabel (Mrs. Walter Riedeman), Robert, Evelyn (Mrs. Walter Martens), twins, Eileen at home and Arlene (Mrs. Ray Kruger) and Richard, at home. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and seven children, nine grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters and many other relatives and friends. His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
