Audrey Miller
Dec. 31, 1905—Feb. 28, 2011
Audrey c. Miller, 105, Keizer, OR, formerly of Sheldon, died Monday evening, Feb. 28, at Avamere Court in Keizer, OR.
Services were Friday, March 4, at St Edwards Catholic Church in Keizer, OR. Burial was at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, OR, under the direction of Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem, OR.
Audrey Miller, daughter of Michael and Mary Kane, was born Dec. 31, 1905, and lived on a farm in Matlock with her parents and six sisters and brothers. She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1923. She taught country school for several years before marrying Wayne Miller on Sept. 1, 1926. They settled in Sheldon and had three children. His National Guard unit was activated into federal military service by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in February 1941 and he served until the end of World War II. During this time, she raised her children with a strong hand and a warm heart. Because of this, all three children were successful and happy in their adult lives. Mr. Miller also served as Sheldon’s mayor 1946-50. They left Sheldon in 1951 and moved to Sedalia, MO, for employment opportunities. They lived in Missouri until 1963 when they moved to Salem, OR, to be near their children and grandchildren. She lived in South Salem until 2000 when she moved to Avamere Court in Keizer, OR. She was admired at Avamere by the staff and residents for her wit and ability to handle problems. The staff said she was a role-model grandmother and brought their children to meet this fabulous grandmother. She had a sense of humor (even with losing her sight and hearing) to the end. She was intelligent, patient, and progressive woman ahead of her time.
Survivors include three children, Norma Mayfield of Phoenix, AZ., Rodney W. and Marilyn Miller of Tucson, AZ, and Roger C. and Joan Miller of Clayton, CA; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and her good friend, Marty Randall. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Wayne Miller: six siblings; and a son-in-law, Dennis Mayfield.
