Torval Johnson, 84, Hartley, died
Thursday, (Nov. 8,1979) in a hospital at
Hartley.

He was the father of Gary Johnson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in
St. Paul Lutheran church at Hartley.
Rev. Francis Mennenga will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View
cemetery under direction of the
Baumgarten funeral home of Hartley.

Graveside military services will be
conducted by Arthur Kirchhoff post 288,
American Legion.

Mr. Johnson was bom Sept. 22, 1892,
at Alta to Jacob and Katherine Giese
Johnson.

He married Helga Vesgaard Feb. 9,
1927, at Newell. They farmed near Alta
before moving to a farm near Hartley
in 1947. They moved into Hartley in 1955.

He served in the U.S. army during
world war 1. He served nine years on
the Fairview school board, five as
president. He also was one of the founders
of the Alta Community hospital.

Mr. Johnson was a member of St.
Paul Lutheran church, a charter member
of Smith post 498, American
Legion, at Alta and a member of Kirchhoff
post 288, American Legion at
Hartley.

Survivors are his wife; three sons,
LeRoy of Hartley, Duane of Estherville
and Gary of Le Mars; a sister, Mrs.
Margurite Wooner of Cresco, and 11
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, 5 brothers, a sister and 4 grandchildren.
