DEATH OF OLIVER EVANS
Son of the Late Edward and Margaret
Evans Passes Away at Home In
Hollywood, Calif., June 10.
Oliver Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Evans, formerly of Lowville,
was born in Utica, December 3, 1841,
and passed away in his Hollywood,
Calif., home June 10, 1929, at the age
of 87 years and six months. His death
was caused from the after-effects of
the flu, which he had in December
And never fully recovered.
Oliver Evans grew to young manhood
in Lewis county, then went, West,
settling in O'Brien county,
Iowa, in 1869, being one of the first
twelve voters in that county. In 1871
he was married to Marietta English,
also of Lewis county and together
they raised their family, facing the
joys and hardships as only the early
settlers of that day knew. They resided
on the same farm nearly fifty
years, finally moving to Hollywood,
Calif., where Mrs. Evans passed away
eight years ago. For eight years Mr.
Evans bravely kept his home open,
where he spent his last illness.
Funeral services were conducted at
his late home by Rev. E. Nelson
Allen, South Hollywood Presbyterian
minister, of which church the deceased
was a member. Interment was
made in the beautiful Hollywood
cemetery beside his companion,, with
the Masonic order taking charge at
the grave with their impressive
ceremony.
His four children were with him
At the end, Mrs. Jessemine Hawley,
Mrs. Evelyn Powers, both of Holly-
wood; Edward O. Evans, of Des,
Moines, Ia., and Harry J. Evans, of
Goldfleld, Ia. Mr. Evans also leaves
fourteen, grandchildren—and fourteen
great grandchildren, besides his beloved
nephews, of Rawleigh, South
Carolina, and Henry Boshart, of
Lowville.
The great events of his latter life
were, his yearly trips to his beloved
Iowa and to visit his old friends in
New York state. Among his (last
words. he was calling for his boyhood
friends, many who have long since
passed on to the beautiful home, the
house not made with hands, eternal
in the heavens.
