Clark Dayton Hughes 1899 - 1982

Clark D. Hughes son of N. I. and May Miller Hughes was born Feb. 12, 1899 in Story County, Iowa. He moved to the Primghar area as a youth and attended Primghar Schools, graduating from Primghar High School in 1916. He then attended Iowa State College in Ames graduating in 1922. It was during this time he was called into service during WWI which he served in the Army, date of entry, Oct. 1, 1919, date of release, Dec. 18, 1919. On Dec. 27, 1919 he was united in marriage to Electa Hardin in Primghar. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Primghar area for many years. Electa preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1977 in Primghar. He was later united in marriage to Verna Bland on June 2, 1979 in Primghar. After their marriage the couple resided in Primghar. Clark passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 1982 at Marion Health Center in Sioux City reaching the age of 83 years, nine months, and three days.
He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, a 50 year member of American Legion of Primghar, and had been an active member of the Farm Bureau.
Clark leaves to mourn his passing his wife Verna; his children four sons: Rodney of Primghar, Royce of Spirit Lake, Reece of Harlan, and Robert of Denton, TX; three daughters: Mrs. O. K. (Audrey) Goodrich Jr. of Barnett, MO, Mrs. Earl F. (Ardyce) Jago Jr., of Waterloo and Mrs. Lester (Alycia) Carlsborg of Ames. One step-daugher Mrs. K. K. (Beradine) Edwards of Carrollton, TX; 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Rohwer of Primghar also a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.
