Oliver Evans, Born at
North Martinsburg in
1841, Hale and Hearty
at 84.

A Hartley, Ia., paper of recent date
has the following:
"Oliver Evans is here from his California
home at Los Angeles, looking after
his interests: It is interesting to
talk over the early days of O'Brien
county with Mr. Evans, for he was
of those who came and blazed the
way for those later settlers. He saw
hardships of those early days when
even food was scarce and the money
with which to obtain it was far more
scarce."
Mr. Evans- was born at North Martinsburg,
Lewis county, December 3, 1841. He was
the second son of Edward and Margaret
Evans. He left Lowville in 1868 to make
his new home at Hartley, O'Brien county,
Ia., and returned three years later to
claim his bride, Miss Marietta English,
who went with him to the new
home where they made a splendid
success. Mr. Evans still conducts his
large farming interests, and not many
Lewis county boys have such a
splendid record.
