Brown - Young wedding
At high noon, Thursday, Aug. 24th, a very pretty wedding took place. Will R. Brown and Miss Ruby Young were married at the splendid new home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Young, 4 miles north of Primghar. The bride is the oldest daughter of the family and the groom is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Brown, of Primghar. The groom has spent his entire life either on the farm, 5 miles north-east of Primghar, or in Primghar.
The contracting parties are graduates of the High School of Primghar, class of 1906, the fulfillment of one class prophesy.
For three years the groom has successfully farmed the homestead, being far above most young men in their first experience in managing a large farm. For a time Mr. Brown was a student at Cornell college and made an excellent school record.
The bride was born in Story county and came to this county eight years ago. Mr. Young is one of the most successful farmers of the county, and his wife is a helpmeet indeed and in truth. The bride was an exceptionally good student and had an enviable record in high school, and made an excellent showing at Morningside college, which she attended for a time. She was a very successful teacher, a fine musician, a cultured christian lady.
These young people have every prospect of a happy union. Mr. Brown stands as one of the very best type of manhood, intelligent, educated, industrious and esteemed, of one of the most highly respected as well as oldest families of the county, exemplary in habits, and devoted christian a noble young man.
Besides the immediate members of the families, the following guests were present: Mrs. W. S. Hughes and daughter Grace, of Kelly; Edgar Wright, of Sanborn, and Mrs. McClary, of Primghar.
An elegant and dainty lap luncheon was handsomely served by Misses Hazel Britton and Bernadine Zook, of Sanborn, and Marie Metcalf and the bride's sister.
Promptly at 12 o'clock, the young people entered the tastily decorated room as the strains of the march Lohengrin were played in a most pleasing way by Miss Clara Brown. Rev. Tompkins, who baptised and received the bride and groom into the church, used the beautiful ring ceremony. Miss Lelia McClary was bridesmaid and Clark Young best man. At 3 p. m. the happy young people took an auto to the lakes and from there they went to Fanny Brown-Barkley's, at Gowrey, for a few days, thence to the state fair and home, which will be on W. H. Brown's splendid farm.
As these young people are prominent in church and society circles, an unusually large number of people extend congratulations and best wishes.---from an O'Brien County, Iowa newspaper, August 31, 1911
