Fulton Township 1860-1880

Luke Martin, Patrick Manion, Martin Manion, James McGuire and their families bought farm land at Fulton from about 1865. By 1883, the families had left Fulton. I would like to know why they left. I suspect that they were undercapitalised and farming was too precarious. If anyone knows about life at Fulton in this time period I would love to have a conversation.
