Funeral services for Dale S. Niles, 73, Muscatine, were held April 22, 1995 at the Riley Funeral Home. Burial, with military rites conducted jointly by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was in the Muscatine Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Niles died April 20 at the Muscatine Care Center, following an extended illness.

The son of Ernest and Ethel Estes Niles, he was born July 25, 1921 in Wilton. He married Roberta Farrar Oct. 11, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Niles was the store manager for Better Homes Furniture in Muscatine for several years before moving to California, where he retired from Montgomery Ward in 1971.

He had been a resident of Muscatine for more than 30 years. He lived in Sacramento, Calif. for 2 years. He returned to Muscatine in 1982.

Mr. Niles served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre in World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Richard Niles, Davenport; a daughter, Dixie and her husband John Hildebaugh, Muscatine; 2 grandchildren and 2 brothers, Gail Niles, Wilton and Howard Niles, Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Forrest and a sister, Stella Irven.
