Funeral services for Vera M. Sharpless, 92, West Liberty, were held Nov. 13, 1993 at the First Church United in West Liberty, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Marianne Phelps was the organist and pallbearers were Mark Sharpless, Richard Garvin, Mark Petersen, Rick Roesger, Jerry Martinson, Tim Wolfe and William Peak. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.

Mrs. Sharpless died Nov. 10 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, following an extended illness.

The daughter of Frank and Laura Dolch Petersen, she was born Aug. 13, 1901 in Cedar county. She married William Sharpless in 1926 and the couple farmed north of Atalissa for several years before moving to West Liberty. Mrs. Sharpless also worked in housekeeping at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty.

Mrs. Sharpless is survived by a son, Duane Sharpless, Iowa City; 3 grandchildren, Roxann Wolfe, Sheila Peak and Mark Sharpless; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Kenneth; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
