Funeral services for Gordon E. Moorhead, 76, Durant, were held Sept. 9, 1993 at Lacock-Bentley Funeral Home in Durant, with the Rev. Karen Dorgan officiating. Mabyn Fox was the organist and Max Lauser was the vocalist. Pallbearers were Jim Van Camp, Vance Fletcher, Lawrence Lilienthal, Henry Hagge, Ed Behnke and Ed Voss. Honorary bearers were Robert Reimers, Jim Sorgenfrey, Richard Fink and Harry Larsen. Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park.
Mr. Moorhead died Sept. 6 at Mercy hospital in Davenport.
The son of M. E. and Bessie Raub Moorhead, he was born Nov. 18, 1916 in Blue Grass. He graduated from Muscatine high school in 1935. He married Ruby Martz in 1939 in Sweetland.
Mr. Moorhead farmed for many years near Sweetland and then near Durant until 1962. He was a petroleum salesman for S/M Service, Walcott, retiring in 1981.
He was a charter member of Elks Chanters, Muscatine; a member of the Sweetland United Methodist church and Quad City Plus 60 Club.
He enjoyed traveling and sports, especially following the Cubs and Hawkeyes.
Mr. Moorhead is survived by his wife; a daughter, Tamara (Mrs. Thomas) Korthaus, Muscatine; 2 grandsons and a sister, Beverly (Mrs. Ralph) Sywassink, Muscatine. A son, Terry Moorhead died in 1961. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Durant Ambulance Service and Mercy Continuing Care.
