Funeral services for Herbert R. Ramirez, 89, Wilton, were held Aug. 30, 1993 at the Lacock-Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton, with the Rev. Christine Tinker officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Les Canarr, Richard Canarr, Michael Canarr, Robert Nichols, Kyle Jones and Anthony Ramirez. Burial was in the Moscow cemetery.
Mr. Ramirez died Aug. 26 at his home in Wilton.
The son of Buenaventura and Agustina Ramirez Ramirez, he was born Dec. 13, 1903 in Rinco De San Jose Mequitic Slp, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1923 and taught himself to read and write English. He married Florence R. Hill Sept. 20, 1939 in West Liberty. She died July 14, 1986.
Mr. Ramirez was a member of the Wilton Historical Society. He was co-grand marshal of the Wilton Founder's Day Parade in 1990.
He worked as a sand miller at Russelloy Foundry in Durant, retiring in 1971. He also worked on the Rock Island Railroad and at J.I. Case.
Mr. Ramirez is survived by 3 sons, Darryl, Wilton; Herbert Jr., Davenport and Arthur, Wilton; 4 daughters, Elvira (Mrs. Lester) Canarr, Muscatine; Isabele Ramirez, Moline, Ill.; and Mary Ramirez and Evelyn (Mrs. David) King, both of Wilton; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers and 3 sisters, all in Mexico.
