Funeral services for Harold C. Kirby, 76, West Liberty, were held Aug. 12, 1993 at the West Liberty United Methodist church, with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery.
Mr. Kirby died Aug. 9 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty.
The son of Marion and Nell McCann Kirby, he was born Sept. 5, 1916 in Cedar county. He attended West Liberty high school and was a janitor at West Liberty elementary until 1943, when he entered the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Kirby married Lois A. Walker June 8, 1940 in Cedar Rapids.
He and a brother operated a Conoco station and later a Firestone store, in West Liberty. He was a city electrician until 1957, was the maintenance service manager for West Liberty school until 1981 and worked at Barker Funeral Home after his retirement.
Mr. Kirby was a member of West Liberty United Methodist church, American Legion Mansell Phillips Post No. 509, the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge, Muscatine. He was a West Liberty firefighter for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, David, Mars, Pa. and Dean, West Liberty; and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers.
