Mrs. J. H. Gresham, former local resident, died Monday night at her home in Muscatine following an extended illness. Death was due to a tumor of the stomach and enlargement of the liver. She had been in failing health for the past 18 weeks. Josephine Carrigan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carrigan, was born in Wapello, Iowa, February 26, 1856. When a young woman she went to Muscatine, which has been her home ever since, covering a period of 45 years. She was married to Mr. Gresham April 27, 1876, to which union three children were born, two of whom died in infancy.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Arthur of Stanley, N. D.; a brother, M. K. Carrigan of Redding, Calif,; her twin sister, Miss Kate Carrigan of Wapello, who dutifully and patiently cared for her during her last illness; and six other sisters: Miss Elizabeth Carrigan o Redding, Calif; Mrs. B. S. Pennington of Hisington, Kans.; Mrs. J. M. Haddock of Bedford, Ia.; Mrs. Martin Higgins of Chicago; Mrs. Ella Cassabaum of El Paso, Texas and Mrs. Fannie Shew of Grandview. Deceased was a faithful member of the United Brethren church and was affiliated with the Rebekah and Court of Honor lodges. Funeral services are to be held at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon from the United Brethren church in Muscatine, conducted by Rev. Ira Hawley and burial made in Greenwood cemetery, Muscatine.
