Funeral services for Ralph M. Akers, 75, West Liberty, were held Aug. 13, 1991 at the First Church United in West Liberty, with the Rev. Ralph Farmer officiating. Mrs. Elizabeth Farmer was the soloist, with Marianne Phelps as organist. Pallbearers were William Koellner, Dean Phelps, Thomas Brooke, Wayne Noring, Lyle Dickinson, Kenneth Ruesseger, James Drebelbeis, Verland Olson and Jack McIntosh. Honorary bearers were Leland Billick and the Provost Guard of the Kaaba Shrine, Davenport. Masonic services were conducted by Mt. Calvary Masonic Lodge No. 95. Burial with military honors was in the Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Akers died Aug. 10 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City, following a long illness.

The son of Joseph and Adella Carman Akers, he was born Feb. 5, 1916 in Tarkio, Mo. He married Betty Oling Oct 12, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minn. He attended the University of Missouri and moved to Iowa in 1936. He farmed south of Eddyville and served in the U. S. Army in World War II in the European Command. He also served in the Army Reserve.

Mr. Akers joined the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1948 and served in District 12 until he retired in 1971. He later worked in security at Louis Rich Foods in West Liberty.

Mr. Akers was a member of the First Church United, Mt. Calvary Masonic Lodge No. 95 in West Liberty, the Kaaba Shrine of Davenport and the Davenport Consistory. He was also a member of the Iowa State Patrol Association and the Iowa State Troopers Association. He was a past patron of the Lotus Chapter O.E.S. and a member of the West Liberty American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Joseph V. Akers, West Liberty; a brother, Fred Akers, San Diego, Calif. and 2 grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother.
