Harold Whitacre Dies Suddenly at Play Rehearsal [handwritten date: 24 March 1955]

HAROLD O. WHITACRE
Harold Oral Whitacre, 38, of 301 West Fulliam avenue, manager of the Iowa State Employment office in Muscatine, died suddenly Wednesday night while participating in a rehearsal of Muscatine Community Player at the O.E. Schauland home, 1707 Mulberry avenue.

Mr. Whitacre was born July 11, 1916 at Lancaster, Mo., being a son of Chester O. and Alta McMains Whitacre. He had lived in Burlington before coming to Muscatine 11 years ago. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Iowa university.

He married LaVern Montgomery Dec. 24, 1944 at Burlington.

Mr. Whitacre was a member of the Muscatine Kiwanis organization. In addition to being manager of the Employment Service office here he was also an announcer at station KWPC.

Surviving are his wife three sons, Jan, Lynn and Gary Whitacre, at home; a sister, Mrs. R.W. Stewart of West Burlington; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester O. Whitacre, of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Carol, during World War II.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at the George M. Wittich Funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery at Burlington. The body is at the funeral home, but will be taken to the Whitacre home Friday at noon.
