Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Smith, 82, were held at United Methodist church, West Liberty, April 9, with the Rev. Lawrence Carlton officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died at her home April 6, following an extended illness.

The daughter of Homer and Myrta Baker Swain, she was born at West Liberty Oct. 7, 1891 and was married to C. Earl Smith Feb. 28, 1922.

Mrs. Smith taught in the West Liberty and Clinton areas. Prior to her husband's death, they farmed west of West Liberty.

She was a member of the United Methodist church, past president of its WSCS and a 50 year member of the PEO and OES. She was also a member of the South Prairie Grange and had been an officer in the State Grange. She was also active in Farm Bureau and 4-H work.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Duane (Virginia) Lodge, West Des Moines and Mrs. Francis W. (Dora Lee) Petersen, Atalissa; 2 sisters, Mrs. D. D. (Edith) Baker, Ft. Myers, Fla. and Mrs. Charlotte Crawford, West Liberty; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson and a sister.
