William Thomas Smith, 86, a resident of the Wilton area for 23 years died July 24 in a Muscatine nursing home. Services were conducted July 26 at the Gill Funeral home, Wilton, and the following day, preceding interment, at the Hope Funeral home, Gallatin, Mo.

He was born in Cedarville, Kans. on Jan. 11, 1886, the son of James and Emma Zornes Smith. He married Aletha Elizabeth Evans in Gallatin, Mo., on Oct. 9, 1909. She died in 1948. On Oct. 15, 1949, he married Lorena Morrison Hiatt in Gallatin. She preceded him in death on June 2, 1972.

Mr. Smith farmed in the Gallatin-Jamesport, Mo., area for many years and also owned and operated a restaurant in Jamesport. He was locally employed by the Muscatine Pearl works and by the Automatic Button Company in Wilton.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Dorothy) Flemming, Independence, Mo.; Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Hoskins, Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Fiedler, Muscatine; one son, Clifford A. Smith, Wilton; 5 step-sons, Marvin Morrison, West Liberty; Melvin Morrison, Shabana, Ill.; James Morrison, Plano, Ill.; Harold Morrison, Davenport; Eugene Morrison, Atalissa; one sister, Mrs. Lon Turner, Freeburg, Mo.; 2 brothers, Ben Smith, Malvern; Max Smith, Chandler, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

In addition to his 2 wives, preceding him in death were 3 daughters, one son, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
