Verna Louise Denkman, age 97, of Wilton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. A visitation will be held from 9:30 -11:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Klein Cemetery, Moscow. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Wilton Athletic Boosters.

Verna was born on July 30, 1924, the daughter of Roy and Irma (Freyermuth) Gauger in rural Muscatine, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Eugene Denkman, on March 16, 1944 in Muscatine. Eugene passed away on May 20, 2008.

Verna was a homemaker, who treasured taking care of her family. She also worked alongside her husband, Eugene, on the family farm. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Muscatine County Farm Bureau and Bloomington Grange. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, playing cards, bowling and fishing. Most of all, Verna loved spending time with her family and friends.

Verna will be dearly missed by her daughters, Linda (Bob) Timmsen of Wilton, and DeeAnn (Larry) Cromwell of Scottsdale, Arizona; one son, Dean (Vickie) Denkman of Moscow, eight grandchildren, Daniel (Cindy) Timmsen, Christopher (Cara) Timmsen, Shaun (Katie) Oveson, Kristina (Stephane) Lecina, Jennifer Oveson, Jason (April) Denkman, Derick Denkman and Carrie (B.J.) Axtell; thirteen great grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Brandon, Kaleb, Laure, Analiese, Cecelia, Matthis, Riley, Brogan, Rennan, Carter and Cylas; two great-great grandchildren, Owen and Witten; one brother, Ronald (Joyce) Gauger of Lone Tree; and two brothers-in-law, Earl Denkman of Muscatine and Dale (Judy) Denkman of West Liberty.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; and one sister, Twyla Marolf.
