Funeral services for C. Earl Smith, 80, were held at the West Liberty Methodist church May 19, with burial in the Oak Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Smith died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, after a short illness May 16.

The son of Walter and Dora Shepherd Smith, he was born near Bennett Oct. 2, 1889. He had resided near West Liberty since 1901. He married Helen Swain on Feb. 28, 1922, at West Liberty. He was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist church, the Muscatine Farm Bureau, the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, Knights of Pythias, and a 50-year member of the South Prairie Grange.

Surviving are his widow; 2 daughters, Mrs. Duane (Virginia) Lodge, West Des Moines and Mrs. Francis W. (Dora Lee) Petersen; 2 sisters, Mrs. Hazel Crozer, Atalissa and Mrs. Vae Larson, Bradenton, Fla.; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a agrandson.
