Thomas J Clay, 55, colored, former resident of Muscatine, died at his home, Mankato, Minn., Tuesday evening at 10:45 death being caused by cancer of the stomach.

He was born in Iowa City April 13, 1878, the son of Boston and Louisa Clay. He later moved to Muscatine and made his home here until he entered the show business. He was manager of his own troupe for 19 years, doing considerable traveling. For the past three years, he operated a tailor shop at Mankato. He was a member of the Elks lodge and of the Knights of Pythias.

He was married in 1915. Surviving are his wife, one brother, and one sister, Mrs. Louisa Lloyd, Muscatine.

The body was brought to the Fairbanks Home for Funerals today. Funeral services will be conducted there at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon by the Rev. H. D. Harris, pastor of the Bethel Methodist Episcopal church and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
