Thyra Ann Missfeldt (1922-2021)

Thyra Ann (Arp) Missfeldt, age 99, formerly of Durant, Iowa, passed away with her family at her bedside on October 8, 2021 in Chandler, Arizona, after taking ill suddenly. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Burial will take place in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Camp Courageous of Iowa in her memory.

Thyra was born at home in Scott County on January 1, 1922, the daughter of Leona (Dreyer) and Harry D. Arp, the second of nine children. She married Alvin Missfeldt on February 14, 1981, and they lived in Durant until his death in 2012.

Thyra attended small rural schools and Davenport Central High School. She was the Cafeteria Manager at several Quad City Area Schools. Thyra also worked for Canteen at Alcoa (Arconic) and did private catering. Her favorite job was tending bar at Sneaky Pete’s in LeClaire and Smitty’s in Riverdale. Thyra volunteered for the Durant Ambulance service and shared her love of gardening as a member of the Garden Club in Durant.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Georgia (Timothy) Lightner, Gail (Thomas) Arndt, and Conrad (Lynette) Halden; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Meyer; brother, Harry Arp. Jr.; and sister-in-law, Shirley (Alan) Arp.

Thyra was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; three sisters; and three brothers.
