Muriel Kaye Rosmann (1939-2021)

PHOENIX, AZ-Muriel Kaye Rosmann, 81, of Phoenix, AZ passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 after a long battle with cancer and Parkinson's Disease.

Muriel was born in western Iowa to Orlando and Alice Schrooten on September 29, 1939. Muriel graduated from high school in Sac City, IA. She received an educational degree from Northwestern Missouri State, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum from Arizona State University. Muriel taught elementary school in Muscatine, Iowa and Phoenix, Arizona and ended her professional career serving the Arizona Department of Education.

At the Arizona Department of Education, Muriel's passion projects included the Arizona State Poetry Contest and Arizona Statehood Essay Contest. While working on those projects, Muriel developed a twenty-year friendship with the longest serving Arizona State Legislator from Gila County, Polly Rosenbaum and collected many biographical artifacts about her life. Muriel co-authored several books for teachers to support the development of student reading and writing. Muriel also traveled extensively to the Indian reservations and remote regions of the state to provide educational support and professional development.

Muriel will be deeply missed by her family. Muriel is survived by her three children, Laura (Daniel) Katayama, Dr. Michele (Mark) Wilson, Stephen (Vicki) Rosmann; her two sisters, Dr. Marianne Zotti (Hal Shope) and Janelle (John) Juhl; her five adult grandchildren, Dr. Max (Angela) Wilson, Dr. Amanda (Matt) Moore, Kyle Katayama, Katie Katayama, and Joel Rosmann; and her four great-grandchildren whom she missed dearly during the pandemic, Jack, Henry, and Peter Wilson and Ethan Moore.

Muriel requested a safe Celebration of Life. Muriel was cremated and the family is hoping to safely convene in Phoenix, Spring 2022. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Muriel requested that families donate to a food bank of their choice in her memory.
