George D. Stowe, 66, of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away on Saturday morning, May 8, 2021, at Unity Point Health St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A Celebration of his Life life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Buffalo Community Center, 426 Clark Street, Buffalo, Iowa 52728, with luncheon to follow. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.
George David Stowe was born on October 5, 1954 in Medford, Wisconsin, to Chester Dwayne and Loreen Jessie (Hamlin) Stowe. He attended Davenport Central High School and joined the U.S. Navy serving from May 31, 1972 receiving an honorable discharge on October 18, 1974.
Upon returning home from serving his country, George received diesel mechanic training and immediately went to work for Twin Bridges Mack Company as a diesel mechanic. He then worked in the construction field as a heavy equipment operator for McCubbin Construction Company. Lastly, he retired after 25 years as a truck driver for F & G Trucking.
George married Wendy Lendt in 1976 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. A son, Jeremy was born to this union. They later divorced and he spent over 15 years with Pamela Hutchison with whom two children were born, Rebecca and Barbara. He married Sherri Evins in 1996 in Illinois. She preceded him in death in January of 2020.
George was a member of the Milan American Legion Post #569. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rider. He had a large family whom he was very proud of, both biological and biker.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Jeremy (Jennifer) Stowe of Maquoketa, IA, Rebecca (Ron) Knopik of Muscatine, IA, Shawn (Sandy) Hutchison of Jefferson, WI, Barbara Stowe of Bettendorf, IA, and Cody Evins of Muscatine, IA; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale (Diana) Stowe of Davenport, IA, John (Leslie) Stowe of Las Vegas, NV, Randy (Cathy) Stowe of Buffalo, IA, and Glen Stowe of New Auburn, WI; sisters, Sharon Hofeldt of Davenport, IA, and Barbara (Gary) Jensen of High Point, NC; a sister-in-law, Holly Stowe of Davenport, IA; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sherri, infant son George Stowe Jr., brothers Dwayne and James Stowe, sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Max Pickett, sister-in-law Bonnie Stowe, and brother-in-law Chuck Hofeldt.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a George D. Stowe memorial fund has been established.
