MUSCATINE–Dennis L. Dillon, 80, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Doctor Pamela Saturnia will officiate. Masks and social distancing are required at the church.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com .

Dennis was born on January 3, 1941, in Marengo, the son of Leonard and Edna (Grum) Dillon. He married Shirley Hammond on August 27, 1961, in Hedrick. They had been married for nearly 60 years.

Dennis attended Hedrick High School, then attended Drake University. Dennis went from flagpole/water tower painter to business owner of a marina and a woodwork manufacturing company. He retired from Hon Industries and continued woodworking until death.

He was a private pilot for 55 years. Dennis had been a member of the United States Army and Airforce National Guards. He was a member of the Iowa City AeroHawks and the Lone Tree Flyers RC Clubs. Dennis was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Shirley Dillon; his daughter, Debra VanOrnam of Omaha; his grandchildren, Emily Reno (Dan) of Cedar Falls, Dillon VanOrnam (Cassandra) of Omaha; and Franco and Zoa VanOrnam of Omaha; one great-grandson, Dennis VanOrnam; and his sister, Ruby Beal of Des Moines.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
