MUSCATINE, Iowa - James Virgil Pulliam, 87, of Muscatine, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

An open house honoring his life will be held at a later date. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com .

James was born on July 24, 1933, in Muscatine, the son of William and Addie Jane Gravatt Pulliam. He married Dolores Everett on May 17, 1959 in Muscatine.

He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1951 and attended the University of Iowa as a Music Major. James was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1953 to 1961, receiving the National Defense Service Medal/Army of Occupation Medals (Germany).

He retired from First National Bank of Muscatine in 1997 after 37 years. He was an avid trout fisherman, sang in the Elks Chanters for many years, and was an accomplished golfer.

James is survived by his wife, Dolores Pulliam of Muscatine; his children, Damon Pulliam and wife, Sandy, of Tipton, Jocelyn Reimann and husband, Matt, of LaGrange Park, Illinois, and Daphne Donald and husband, Mike, of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, Adriane Pulliam, Shane Pulliam, Jimmy Pulliam, Caroline Reimann, Patrick Reimann, Emily Donald, Ian Donald, and Elizabeth Donald; four great grandchildren, Madrox Foster, Lilly Pulliam, Addilyn Pulliam, and Harper Pulliam.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and 12 siblings, Arnold, Jasper, Marshall, Steve, Helen, William, Merle 'Jiggs', Earl 'Nick', George, Don, Betty, and a sister in infancy.
