LUCAS
Following an illness of 12 weeks’ Abram Lucas, aged 87, a pioneer resident of Lake township and one of the oldest residents of Muscatine Co., died Friday afternoon at 4:45 o’clock at the home of his daughter Mrs. Emma Huber, of Bayfield. His death is attributed to senilty. Mr. Lucas was born in Pennsylvania in 1828. He moved with his parents to Indiana when still a small child. Both his parents died shortly after taking up their residence there. He came to Muscatine in 1865 residing in Lake township for 10 years. In 1875 he moved to Howard County, Iowa, where he remained until 6 years ago when he came back to Muscatine. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Goldsberry in Indiana. Six children were born to the union, 2 of whom died in infancy. One daughter Mrs. George Bly, died 14 years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. Joseph M. Huber, of Bayfield; Wm. Lucas, of Austin, Minn., Samuel Lucas of Cresco, and Henry of Minnesota. He is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 1 great great grand child. The funeral was held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Huber, at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon with services at the High Prairie Church, with interment in that cemetery. The pall bearers were 6 grandsons, George Huber, Frank Huber, Leo Huber, Lewis Huber, Charles Lucas and Walter Lucas.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his name as Abraham and that he was born Oct. 1828 and died Oct. 25, 1915.
