Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services

Arlond C. Brown, 74, of Nichols, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Memorials may be directed to the American Kidney Association or the American Heart Association in his memory.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Casketbearers will be Jesse Honts, Mike Honts, Jeff Honts and Kevin Ellsworth. Honorary casketbearer will be Ben Brown. Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Nichols, Iowa.

Arlond C. Brown was born July 12, 1936, in Smithville, Oklahoma, the son of James and Iva (Romine) Brown. He served with the United States Army from 1959 to 1961, including overseas duty in France. He married Sharon Rae Ellsworth on May 29, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was employed as a welder at HON for 26 years before retiring. He was a member of the NRA and was a past volunteer member of the Nichols Fire Department. He enjoyed outdoor sports and his cabin on the Cedar River. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Nichols; two daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Honts of Nichols, and Nancy (Thomas) Brugman of West Liberty; two sons, David (Sandra) Brown of Lone Tree, and Joel Brown of Nichols; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother; and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and one brother.
