Eleanor K. (Borgstadt) Peterson, 87, of Safford passed away Dec. 12, 2009. Eleanor was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Fred and Edna Thomas. She attended the nursing program at Broadlawns in Des Moines, where she received her nursing degree. Eleanor served as a nursing cadet in World War II. Eleanor met and married Robert Borgstadt in Des Moines on Dec. 14, 1944. They were blessed with three children, Andrea, John and Tom.

They moved to Arizona in 1957 with their family and have lived in the Gila Valley since 1970. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Safford and the Emblem Club of Safford. Eleanor loved to spend her time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Borgstadt; parents, Fred and Edna Thomas; and siblings, Richard Thomas and Shirley Lamb. She is survived by her children, Andrea (Richard) Burton, John (Michelle) Borgstadt and Tom Borgstadt; brother, Lewis Thomas; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Caldwell Funeral Chapel, with viewing one hour prior. Interment will be in the Nichols Cemetery in Nichols, Iowa.
