Funeral service for Fred Best, 68, who died on Sunday, July 15, were held at the Frick Funeral Home in Durant on Wednesday, July 18. The Rev. Fred Rohlf of Davenport officiated.
Max Lauser sang 2 hymns accompanied by Mrs. Leroy Frick at the organ. Casketbearers were Art Lamp, Alfred Bockwoldt, Louis Duge, Allen Otto, Rudy Reimers and William Schlueter. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.
Mr. Best was born April 17, 1894 in Muscatine county, the son of August and Rose Best.
He was married to Minnie Neilsen Sept. 4, 1918, in Davenport. The couple farmed in Muscatine county until retirement 7 years ago, when they moved to Durant.
Surviving are the wife, 2 sons, Elmer and Melvin, both of Stockton; 4 daughters, Mrs. Lester (Elvira) Mehrens, Walcott; Mrs. Lester (Erma) Wichelmann, Durant; Mrs. Wayne (Valeria) Kraft, Muscatine, and Mrs. Raymond (Marlene) Gradin, Davenport; 17 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Edward, Spokane, Wash.; Charles, Holstein and Rudolph, Coal Valley, Ill.; and one sister, Mrs. Lena Neilsen, Durant.
