MUSCATINE, Iowa - Elnora Moore-Nyquist, 93, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at Pearl Valley Care Center.

Elnora was born on January 4, 1927, in Nebraska, the daughter of Frank Madison and Hester A. Norwood. She first married Walter Moore who preceded her in death. Elnora then married Robert W. Nyquist who also preceded her in death.
She graduated with her Associates degree from Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois. Elnora was the first African American to have an emergency foster care home in Rock Island County, helping over 75 children. She was recognized for this by the Rock Island Argus. Elnora was a dietician and after foster care she worked in elder home care.
Elnora was a member of the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Church in Muscatine. She was a Sunday School teacher. Elnora was an Eastern Star member of St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a past Daughter Ruler of Rock Island Elks. Elnora enjoyed crocheting, gardening, baking, and cooking.
Elnora is survived by her son, Jerry Moore; three grandchildren, Latosha, Latricia, Latarra Moore; her great grandchildren; her cousins; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, L.C. Moore, her twin sister, Elzora and sister, Myrtle; and two brothers, Madian and Charles.
