IS STRUCK BY FREIGHT TRAIN

JOHH LAYDON, ROCK ISLAND EMPLOYE INJURED AT DURANT

Stepped from One Track to Escape Engine and Is Hit by Train on Another

Stepping out of the way of an east bound passenger train John Laydon, an employe of the Rock Island railroad at Durant, was struck by a west bound freight train and severely injured.

The accident happened at Durant last evening about six o’clock. The injured man was brought to Davenport and taken to St. Luke’s hospital in the city ambulance.

Laydon suffered a badly cut head and was bruised about the face and body. It has not been determined whether or not he has been injured internally. His condition is regarded as extremely serious.

Lidon Funeral

The body of John Lidon who died yesterday as the result of injuries received by being struck by a train near Durant, Ia., was taken at 3:10 o’clock this afternoon to Durant for burial.

Note: Scott County Iowa death record spelled name as Liden
