Mayor Patrick Raymond Connor, 45, of West Liberty died Saturday morning in Mercy hospital, Iowa City, of complications following surgery. He had been ill a week.
Services were held Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic church in West Liberty. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Connor was serving his first term as mayor, having entered office Jan. 1, 1856.
Born June 16, 1912, in Williamsburg, he had lived in West Liberty 14 years. He married Leota Riedesel Richards Aug. 18, 1947, in Tipton.
Connor was a member of St. Joseph's church, the Elks lodge, American Legion, Rotary club, and Chamber of Commerce.
He was a pilot in World War II; was a member of the Iowa highway patrol eight years; served with the Iowa bureau of investigation two years; was an adjuster with the United Fire & Casualty company of Cedar Rapids five years and was associated in the firm of Jehle & Connor the past two years.
Surviving are the wife; his mother, Mrs. Sarah Connor, Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Janice Jehle; two grandchildren and two brothers, Vincent of Marengo, and Robert of Cedar Rapids.
