Mrs. Pres. H. Willhite Dies At Hershey Hospital, After Illness Of Nine Weeks.
Mrs. Pres. H. Willhite, died about 10:30 o’clock last night at Hershey Hospital, after an illness of more than nine weeks’ duration. On Sunday of last week, Mrs. Willhite underwent an operation, and since that time no hopes were held for her recovery. A complication of diseases, is assigned, as the cause of the demise.
Catherine Gazelle was born in New York City, July 12, 1857. She came to Muscatine county, with her parents when a small child, and during her extended residence in this city, formed a host of friends, who will be pained to learn of her demise. She was a member of the Congregational church, and fraternally was affiliated with the Banner Lodge, Degree of Honor. She was united in marriage with Pres. H. Willhite, of this city, December 1st 1883. To this union two children were born, one of whom died a few years ago.
She is survived by her husband, P. H. Willhite, and one son, Edward O. Willhite, of this city. One sister, Mrs. Josephine Campbell, residing on East Hill, also mourns her demise.
According to present arrangements, the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, from the home, 712 Sampson street, although no definite arrangements have as yet been made.
The announcement of the demise of Mrs. Willhite will come as a keen regret to her many friends throughout the city. The well known South Muscatine woman was highly respected by all who knew her and to the members of her family, who have been in almost constant attendance at her beside her loss is recognized as a irreparable one.
